

I’ve decided to share some of the progress I’ve made pre-emptively, as I’m not sure I will continue to have the time to follow it through after this weekend. So here I am with more free time than usual … time to dig into the data. I’ve been tempted from time to time to dive into the data myself, but due to a general shortage of time and a preference to use that short time to play, I’ve never made the plunge. Over a couple of hundred hours in theHunter:COTW, I’ve continually longed to apply herd management but research on the net and casual observations while playing have fell well short of any sort of accomplishment in this area. Since the first Deer Hunter game that allowed for herd management (Deer Hunter 4? I forget which one but seems like 20 years ago), I’ve always longed for another to come along that allowed that gameplay mechanic. The lower the average score of the existing population, the higher the probability that any respawns will be higher level.


The average score of the existing animal population for a specific species is a primary driver in determining the average score of respawns. TLDR If you want to practice a form of herd management in COTW, wherein you wish to increase the probability of higher level animals, focus on harvesting only higher level animals.
